Get Ready for the First Meet!!
Welcome to Hard Times Swimming! We are a collection of past and present swimmers and coaches that have joined together to create this team. I am your captain Carey Apple.
Our first meet is two weeks away. We still need to recruit and register as many more swimmers as possible as we have lost some of last years team.
I will not be at the first meet and Bill Shectman will be "in charge" for that meet.
This grown-up swim league started in the MOCO are in the summer of 2023. It is very much a fun social league. Think like, adult social kickball/softball type of thing, but swimming.
There are 8 local teams in our league and every team competes every weekend on the schedule. This year, they have added a Northern Virginia league which will also be competing with us at the championship meet only.
Meets for our league are on Sundays. The specific dates and locations can be found below. They usually last about 2 hours. (9 am-11 am)
Events are 25s and 50s of each stroke and/or 100 IM and relays. Everything is optional. You can swim as little or as much (up to 4-5 events) per meet. You sign up for these on the team website a week or so before the meet. If you are not able to make the meet, no problem, just mark your self as "not-attending."
Relays are generated by the team, or Suzie Williams, based on availability and fastest times. We try to have at least A/B relays every meet.
Scoring is done based on age/event. You may physically swim in the pool next to people in a different age group, but you are only scored based on those in your same age group. First place gets 20 pts, second place gets 17, third gets 16, 15, 14, etc.
Practice is on your own, but the league sends out sample sets and practices each week. Click the link to subscribe to Weekly Workouts and get ready to go down in history. Again, there is no organized "practice" for our team. However Suzie and Margaret swim with people several times a week at different pools through out the county.
Our Team is called the Hard Times Swim Team. Last season, we had about 20 teammates and took second place at the championship meet! Our team is most known in the league that we are old(er) and some of us are still pretty darn fast.
What does my Registration Fee get me? The registration fee covers the league registration and meet entry fees. So the more meets/events you sign up for, the better the deal!
More questions? Reach out to Carey, the team captain, with any additional questions you may have about practices, events, or info on The Hard Times Swimming Grown-Up team.
